I explained to a friendly bartender that Air Fresno's album "Flies" was jazz without virtuosic technique. He said, "Oh, kinda like Garage-Jazz..." I'm comfortable with that genre title.
I was playing and performing rock and roll. This is what I was doing in-between. Definitely inspired by Free-Jazz and Soundtracks, I would choose an instrument and record a single take, then choose another instrument and record a single take on top of the previous instrument. Mostly alone, I did this a maximum of five times on every song.
When I started recording these songs, it was summer in Fresno and uncomfortably hot. By the time the last song was recorded, Fresno's winter had become miserably cold.
To this, I tribute this album!
